张永和是个时代人物，他的思想和作品往往饱受争议、广为关注。有人说他那套东西是西方建筑学院体系基本课，却拿来中国充鲜，有人怒其不识时务，有人赞其曰“能”，他很有本事却很低调，反对一些现象却从不诉诸权威。他在前二十年的建筑活动与刘家琨、王澍、周恺们是那么的不同，希望能够杀出一条生路来，再看他后二十年。
